IntelliVid's Point-of-Sale Video Interface Solution Attacks Employee Theft; Test Underway with Major Luxury Retailer
Solution Addresses $17.5-Billion Annual Internal Theft Problem in Retail; Alerts Management to Potential Shrink Incidents

Cambridge, MA December 4, 2006 - IntelliVid Corporation, the leader in intelligent video analysis software for retail loss prevention and store intelligence, today announced that a major luxury retailer has begun trials with its newly developed intelligent point-of-sale video interface module. It targets the exploding problem of employee theft that retailers face.

Using the IntelliVid solution, the high-profile retailer will be able to instantly view and evaluate employees who are processing atypical transactions such as unusually large purchases or merchandise returns. By revealing the circumstances of the transactions, IntelliVid's video analysis capabilities will enable the retailer to identify internal theft incidents and take appropriate action.

The solution was developed in response to a rampant internal theft problem that a recent University of Florida study said now approaches $18 billion annually in the US alone, almost half of the $37.4 billion annual loss to retailers directly as a result of shrink. The same study noted that no other form of larceny costs American citizens more than employee theft.

IntelliVid's video analysis capabilities can determine, for example, if a return is processed without a customer standing nearby. This situation could indicate a fraudulent transaction by an employee who may have removed an item from the shelf, processed a transaction as if a customer was returning it and then kept the money. Transactions such as these often do not appear suspicious to store management because cash in the drawer matches the transactions processed. The invisible nature of this type of fraudulent activity is the very cause of its magnitude in the retail industry.

According to Dr. Christopher Buehler, IntelliVid's Chief Scientist, "With nearly half of all retail shrink being attributed to internal theft, retailers can now significantly improve their bottom line by implementing an intelligent video analysis solution that includes a point-of-sale interface. Retailers have been demanding an efficient and effective method of monitoring questionable transactions, and we're pleased to deliver the solution. This is just one of the many ways IntelliVid is addressing the unique challenges retailers face in their ongoing efforts to increase profits and improve the customer's shopping experience."

Delivery dates for IntelliVid's point-of-sale video interface module will be announced following the completion of testing.
