Macy's Testing Latest Version of Video Investigator
Cambridge, MA October 18, 2006 - IntelliVid Corporation, the leader in intelligent video analysis software for retail loss prevention and store intelligence, today announced version 2.0 of its Video Investigator software, which supports the use of IP surveillance cameras.
The company also announced that Macy's is beta testing this latest release.
Video Investigator transforms retailers' existing video surveillance systems from passive recording devices into active theft prevention and store intelligence solutions, helping to both reduce shrink and provide retailers with key insights into their stores. This new release supports retailers' increasing use of Internet Protocol (IP), cameras, which significantly reduce the complexity and costs of implementation over traditional analog cameras. In addition, by integrating with the emerging IP infrastructure, retailers can better leverage the expertise of their IT departments for tasks such as support and maintenance of surveillance equipment. This will enable in-store staff to focus on their primary responsibilities, such as customer service and loss prevention.
This new release of Video Investigator also supports the use of standard, off-the-shelf PCs from Dell. The Dell hardware platform affords Video Investigator customers several advantages including: industry-leading product quality and reliability, easier maintenance and installation, as well as advanced computing power at a competitive price point.
"We are pleased to be participating in the beta test of Video Investigator 2.0," said Ed Wolfe, vice president of loss prevention at Macy's. "This product has already proven its ability to help us reduce shrink and gain valuable insights into what goes on in our stores."
In addition to IP camera support, Version 2.0 also includes the following enhancements:
* Additional camera inputs per server (16), resulting in a smaller footprint, reduced power requirements, and reduced heat, which is critical in cramped loss prevention offices
* Flexibility in selecting video quality settings, providing customers with an optimal choice of storage capacity and recording time
* Microsoft Windows-based User Interface (UI) for improved ease of use
* Enhanced wireless functionality, which allows the user to receive alerts and view any camera in the store in real-time via a handheld device
"Major retailers are increasingly installing IP surveillance cameras in new stores," said Patrick Sobalvarro, president and CEO of IntelliVid. "To better meet their needs, we are enabling them to use IP cameras together with the analytical capabilities of Video Investigator. The industry as a whole is moving to IP-based infrastructures, so by implementing IP-based systems now, retailers can ensure their infrastructures will be aligned with future technological developments."
Video Investigator 2.0 will be available in December 2006 directly from IntelliVid.
